Real fans on reel

One of the songs in ‘Kuselan’ is picturised on Rajnikanth’s fans and shot at Shanthi theatre recently

here i come Rajnikanth in “Kuchelan”

Shanthi theatre on Mount Road was bubbling with activity. One could see various types and sizes of cut-outs of the Superstar adorning the walls of the theatre. The minute you heard ‘action’ flower petals were showered on the biggest cut-o ut. Followed by honey and milk.

The song “Cinema Cinema” for Kavithalaya and Seven Arts’ “Kuselan” (produced by Pushpa Kandasamy and Vijayakumar) was being picturised with about 2,000 Rajnikanth’s fans and 500 junior artistes.

After a couple of shots, director P. Vasu who is in charge of screenplay, dialogue and direction said that it was the last day of the film’s shooting. The first stanza of the song is in praise of the fans and how they welcome the release of their favourite star’s films. The song is one of the highlights of “Kuselan” and talks about the hard work of the people working behind the camera. The song is penned by Vaale and sung by Shankar Mahadevan.

When Rajnikanth first heard the song he said it had come out well. Since the actor had never met G. V. Prakash, who has scored the music, Vasu took the young music director to the Superstar. Rajni was amazed, “is this the man who has come up with such wonderful music”?

Nearly 600 prints of the film, in which Rajni dons 14 different get ups, will be taken and sent around the world.

The shooting for the Tamil and Telugu versions of “Kuselan” was held for 85 days at Ramoji Rao film city in Hyderabad, Allepey and Pollachi. Vasu was all praise for cameraman Aravind Krishna’s fast-paced work. “That is why we were able to finish the film in a short time. He has also taken some beautiful shots in different angles and done good lighting arrangements. Except the lead pair (Rajnikanth and Nayantara), rest of the cast will differ in both the versions. Before a shot, I would brief the artistes of either the Tamil or Telugu versions and the others would watch on the monitor and do it in the same manner.” What is the film about” “True friendship is important in life”.

The audio of “Kuselan” will be launched on June 30. The date of the film’s release will be announced on July 10.

The film is a remake the Malayalm hit “Katha Parayumbol” starring where Mammootty and Sreenivasan. In Tamil, besides Rajinikanth and Nayantara, there’s Pasupathi with Meena, Vadivelu and Prabhu.
