Young talent Children enacting the play
Rangadhara conducted a theatre workshop for children aged between 5 and 15 and on conclusion of the workshop, the children presented two one-act plays in Marathi, which also marked the 98th show for Rangadhara. The theatre workshop was conducted by P
rakash Phadnis and Archana Phadke.
The one-act plays were performed at the Potti Sreeramulu Telugu University Hall.
The first play titled Rajkanya chi bouli (Princess’s doll) . The play was about a princess who is fond of her doll and would never let go off. The king annoyed with his daughter’s obsession with the doll wants her to be trained in art, education and sword fighting, and orders the doll to be thrown into the forest.
The princess, uninterested in learning, rags the teachers when they come to teach her. She runs away from the palace in search of her doll. Two robbers knowing the presence of the princess in the forest, stalk her and try to kidnap her, however three children who live in the forest, come to the rescue of the princess and catch the robbers.
They become friends of the princess and insist on a condition that they would play with her provided the princess starts the learning process. She agrees and all stay together at the palace. A simple story for children and all the young artistes gave a good and confident performance.
The play was written by Vijay Shinde and directed by Vijay Naik. The second play with the same artistes was titled Ole ole TV bole, a satire on the influence of TV. How the school children relate to TV programmes while studying at school formed the theme of the play.
