Thirukkural contest
Sriram Ilakkiya Kazhagam organises the annual Thirukkural Elocution Contest for school and college students in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.
The preliminary round begins in Chennai on July 19, and will be held in Vellore (July 20), Coimbatore (July 26), Salem (July 27), Tirunelveli (August 2), Madurai (August 3), Tiruchi (August 9) and Puducherry (August 10). The finals are on August 30 in Chennai.
The contestants can speak for five minutes on any of the following: Thottanai Thoorum Manarkeni, Odayar Yenapaduvathu Ookkam, Yenni Thuniga Karumam (for classes Six to Eight); Irrultheera Yenni Seyal ,
Karumamae Katalai Kal or Keitpinung Kela Thagayavae (for classes Nine and Ten); Porinmai Yarkkum Pazhiyanru,
Uzhuvaar Ulagatharukku Aani or Nannayam Yennum Serukku (for classes Eleven and Twelve); and Yarae Pizhathathu Orukirpavar or Veinthamai Illatha Naadu or Innathu Inaniloor Vazhthal (for college students)
