Watch out!

Lisa Ray wears her time lightly, notes S.M. AAMIR

what’s the time? Lisa Ray

Rado might have given us the world’s first scratchproof watch back in 1962 but that has obviously failed to convey the value of punctuality to its brand ambassador Lisa Ray who shows up every now and then at a conference in the Capital, flaunting the latest. Lisa may not have done even half a dozen Hindi films but that did not prevent her from arriving fashionably late for the launch of Rado’s new Colors collection in New Delhi this past week.

Dressed in an elegant attire by well known designer Ashish Soni, Lisa flashed her famous smile, struck poses, showed off her Rado but chose not to share the reasons for her late arrival.

Of course she later shared rehearsed sentences about the qualities of the watch, with an audience that included fashion designers Ritu Beri, Sunit Verma, Ramola Bachchan and Ashish Soni.

Claiming she has an emotional attachment with the watch she said, “Rado is a recognised brand and the product is very good. I have been associated with it emotionally for a very long period.” Saying, “I am delighted with the new collection,” she added the collection “enhances the elegance of black with different shades.”

Through with a few predictable quotes on the watch, Lisa was counting the minutes to leave without talking about her films and modelling days. Feigning ignorance of the popular Lakme and Bombay Dyeing ad campaigns, she was ready to talk about Rado only. She even parried questions on Water, Deepa Mehta’s film on the widows of Banaras, that got her recognition with Indian film lovers.

Amidst flashing lights, Lisa continued to be a picture of poise. It’s clear that she has maintained her svelte figure. Flaunting her dainty wrist with the elegant Rado, and posing for shutterbugs she quipped, “I am just so happy to be here. I don’t get much time to be in Delhi but I like the city. I have an Indian soul.”

She is working on a couple of international film projects, and is “careful about being a brand ambassador”. For the moment, though her eyes are on the watch. And it is time to go.
