Tibetan cultural weekend from July 4 to 6

The Alliance Francaise of Madras (AFM) conducts a Tibetan Cultural Weekend from July 4 to 6.
On July 4 at 11 a.m., the Vice Chancellor of the University of Madras will inaugurate a talk and conference by Claude Arpi on the first foreign travellers to Tibet, particularly Alexandra David Neel. Venue: University of Madras, Hall F50.
On the same day at 6.30 p.m., the film “Himalaya” by Eric Valli will be screened at the AFM auditorium. It was nominated for the Academy Awards 2000 in the Best Foreign Film Category.
On July 5 (from 3 p.m. to 6.30 p.m.), at AFM, there will be chanting by monks and interactions with the students, who will sing Tibetan songs. At 6.30 p.m., a documentary “Buddhism — The Message of the Tibetans” by Arnaud Desjardins will be screened.
On the last day (July 6), chanting and songs apart, there will be a slideshow and talk on Tibet by Usha Kris, photographer. At 6.30 p.m., the film “Tantrism — The Message of the Tibetans by Arnaud Desjardins will be screened. At 7.30 p.m., “Kundun” (the title by which the Dalai Lama is addressed) by Martin Scorcese, based on the life and writings of the Dalai Lama, will be shown.
Tibetan food, organised by the Tibetan Students Association of Madras, and handicrafts will be on sale on July 5 and 6 from 11a.m. to 8 p.m.
