Moving account

I am one among tens of thousands of fans of the great singer Mohammed Rafi. As I read about the member of the audience who could not hold back his tears when he heard Anil Bajpai singing a Rafi masterpiece at a recent performance in Kamaraj Arangam (“Yours truly, Rafi”, MetroPlus, June 25), I too could not hold back my tears. So melodious was Rafi’s voice. He always remained humble and said his singing talent was a gift from God. His funeral 28 years ago in Bombay was attended by a large crowd, said to have been the largest to have attended a celebrity’s funeral. And this, despite a heavy downpour!

Truly there could be no greater testimony to the love and affection that fans had for the legend.

Strong support

We thank MetroPlus for the article on Hussain Bhavnagarwala (“Master Mariner”, MetroPlus, June 26). A special word of thanks to the writer.

We would also like to mention two people who have been in the background but encouraged Hussain’s keen interest in sailing. The first is Aysha Rao, who initiated him into the sport along with her children Rohini and Ajay. Next is Dr. Mushtaq, who has been meticulously and painstakingly coaching Hussain and the other youngsters at the TNSA. It is people like these who have helped the sport gain recognition in the country and taken India to new heights globally.

Multi-faceted

The article “Kush Kush Hota Hai” (MetroPlus, June 28) was interesting. I was amazed to learn that Kushboo is involved in so many activities and that too simultaneously — producing films and serials, acting, cooking for the family, helping the children with their homework, etc.

It was also interesting to note that when Kushboo stopped appearing on the big screen, her director-husband Sundar C. took her place. He is now acting in several films and has carved a niche for himself.
