The Leela Palace with Jiggs Kalra presents the Mewar Food Festival, on till July 11 at its Indian Restaurant Jamavar. The cuisine of Mewar is inspired by the rugged topography of Rajasthan and indigenously available ingredients. So the menu offers specialties such as sooley, which was the original kebab (a form of Indian barbeque), says Kalra. “It is mistakenly believed that Moghuls introduced kebab to India when they invaded the country; but the truth is that Mewar cuisine and its hallmark sooley was here way before the Moghuls arrived on the scene! Other than the meats, lots of legumes, pulses and the use of milk, curd and buttermilk for the gravies are characteristic of Mewar cuisine,” adds this celebrity chef.

The menu for the fest has been created after extensive research, with the ingredients and equipments specially brought from Mewar to lend the authentic taste of the true Mewar cuisine. The signature dishes include Rajasthani specialties such as dal batti churma, kaer sangri and ghewar.

The fest is open for lunch and dinner, from noon to 3 p.m. and between 7 p.m. to 11.30 p.m. For details and reservations call 30571344.
