Head strong Darkened hair shades are the present trend says Viji Kumar

He is passionate about his work. Especially so as his work involves giving people a spanking new look. Meet Vijay Babu, popularly known as Viji Kumar . An expert at hair cuts and styling, Viji took up hairstyling as a career for only one reason- his love for the mane. He loves the feel and texture of hair, he loves the fact that he can style it in any way he likes and most importantly, he takes that extra step to understand his clients’ needs.

Self made

Born and brought up in Thiruvanthpuram, Viji today stands as a self made man in the hairstyling industry. His courage to do something different on his own terms has taken him to great heights.

In the city to hold a day long workshop on hair cutting, hairstyling and colouring, he taught many a complicated cuts effortlessly.

Latest trend

“Italian hairstyles comprising uneven haircuts are in. Blonde colours in streaks and highlighting in two-three colours are also in vogue. With the graduate application technique, face complexion is no longer a concern for colouring”, says Viji. He adds, “Kochiites are waking up to the latest trends in hairstyles and are ready to experiment with their looks.”

Colours set a fashion statement and tresses are what attract the eye first! Darkened shades are the trend nowadays. Colour most certainly stands out on silky hair as it tends to separate the hair.

To feel the texture of hair before chopping it off is very important for Viji. After all, a lot depends on a person’s hairstyle. Not only the look but the personality also varies with the change in hairstyle. “Some people are very fussy. They are traditional in their views but want to look modern- those are trying times for me. Over the years I have learnt how to deal with such people” says Viji, who has gathered enough experience and appointments in his career to be able to comply with ease.

“I strictly advise people not to use henna and oil on the hair. Oil is good for the scalp but it doesn’t do the hair any good. Especially during the monsoons, one must avoid its use”, Viji asserts. “Also, wash and condition your hair regularly, not more than twice in a week. If you need to wash it more often, use baby shampoo”.

As any other profession, hairstyling involves a lot of hard work as also awareness to keep up with the latest trends and styles. “Don’t get into it if you are not passionate about it”, says Viji, who initiated his wife Sathija into hairstyling after marriage. Every year the two of them travel to various cities to share their ideas and techniques.

Hairstyling is an art and art knows no boundaries. Trends change with time and fashion changes with every passing season. Keep abreast with the times and let your hair do the talking!

A round faced person should go in for Laser cut.

A square faced person should get fringes.

A Razor cut will suit anyone with an oval face.

Go in for a volume increasing cut if you have a long face.
