Planning for future

Expectations from the Olympics 2008 is the same as ever “A Gold Medal” – at least this time. People’s expectation is not the only source of encouragement for the Indian sportspersons.

In our country, Olympics is not given the importance it deserves because all attention is only on the money spinning cricket. The Indian hockey team today lacks support and encouragement.

There is a national level athletics meet in India every year but support should be beyond the prize money in motivation and attention.

The sports ministry can even just select the winner of the national sports meet for rigorous training for the Olympics. This would attract more people into the national level athletics and into Olympics. The government should come up with exclusive coaching centres for Olympic games or at least promote private trainers initially in all metros and two-tier cities. This will surely attract interested youngsters.
