“I want to diversify — direct a film and perhaps design jewellery. I am at the peak of my career and don’t want to get complacent,” says Sabyasachi. Reading and watching world movies, he says, gives him a perspective of different things. His previous show at the New York Fashion Week was a mock at the world of fashion. Inspired by Khaled Hosseini’s (The Kite Runner) writings, the clothes had motifs from Afghanistan. “The collection shocked people. I called it the communist collection because fashion and communism don’t go hand in hand.” His next collection for the New York Fashion Week is inspired by exotic birds.

Tell him that directing a film is a different things altogether and he says, “Technical knowledge is never a hindrance. There will be people to help me. I watched Aamir and liked it. You don’t need big stars or a big designer to make a good film. You just need an intelligent mind.”
