The film is the story of Kuniyamma (Sukumari), whose life is one of untold woes. Her son (Mohanlal), an idealistic teacher and rebel, was sentenced to death on charges of being an extremist. And the news of her son’s hanging shatters Kuniyamma so much that she loses her mental balance. And then, in a trance-like condition, she begins a search for her son, not ready to take into account the truth that her son is no more.

Uncle Aamir Khan (who is the producer) is trying to recreate the “Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak” magic for his nephew Imraan Khan, who begins his innings in Bollywood with this film. The cute Genelia D’Souza is the chocolate hero’s love interest. The film also features Naseeruddin Shah, Paresh Rawal, Arbaaz and Sohail Khan. The peppy music is by Aamir’s favourite A. R. Rehman.
