Car and bike questions? We have the answers
|
I am planning to buy a small hatchback to drive in the city. My budget is Rs. 4 lakh. I want to go in for Chevrolet Spark LT model. What is your opinion? I want to know about GM’s service, quality and brand value. Also, tell me about the car’s resale value and durability. Is GM offering discounts owing to poor sales.
Vishal Khetwani
The Spark is a good car and you don’t have to worry about it being a Daewoo. This model is proven world over. It is a well-built car and offers a good amount of space for its size. The engine is peppy enough for the city, but you may feel the need for more power on the highway. Overall, the Spark is one of the better packages around. So if you like the car, go for it. The GM is offering the car at a discounted rate. Check it with the dealers as the discounts vary from place to place. Resale value is decent but not as good as other small cars.
I am planning to buy a new car that costs between Rs 7 and 9 lakh (on-road Raipur). How about Ford Fiesta or Renault Logan. My requirements are good looks, fuel economy of above 30kpl as well as low maintenance costs and a diesel engine. Suggest a suitable car.
Sourav Kumar Joshi
The new Fiesta will give you the combination of attractive styling and fuel economy that you’re looking for. Unfortunately, it will be difficult to get 30kpl from any car in the market. But if you drive with your air-conditioner off, maintaining a steady speed on the highway, you could come close. In normal driving though, you would get between 14-22kpl depending on driving conditions and style.
I want to buy a car in the Rs. 4-5 lakh range. My monthly running is 1,000km per month in the city and I’d like to keep it for at least four years. I was considering the i10 Era or the Swift Diesel VDi. Which will be a better buy considering all costs and resale value? Swift resale prices in Kolkata are rather low — Rs 2.5 lakh for a two-year-old LXi. I like the Getz but I learn the i20 is due this year. I can wait for two or three months, if you recommend any car that is going to be launched soon. I believe the Honda Jazz, new Indica, i20, Grand Punto, A-Star, new U-VA and the new Wagon R will be launched soon.
Rahul Choudhary
In the Rs 4-5 lakh range there is a wide choice available. The Swift (especially the diesel) may be beyond your budget and hence we suggest you look at the ‘A-segment’ models or those that are a class below the Swift. There are good options but the one to go for would be the i10 with the 1.2 ‘Kappa’ engine, in Magna trim. The ‘Kappa’ i10 will be launched within the next few weeks and has a much more powerful engine that should be worth the wait.
