Some play, some work

Green and pink caught one’s attention instantly at the Pure and Play Fashion and Lifestyle buyer-seller meet held at New Delhi’s Pragati Maidan recently. Cut-outs of parrots perched on cages and mannequins dressed in parrot feathers vied for your interest at the venue. The organisers had a purpose in mind. While the pink stood for women, referred to as ‘Pure’, green was meant for children, termed as ‘play’.

The three-day event, organised by the Images group, presented a good mix of business, fashion and ideas. Focussing on the future and opportunities in women’s wear and kids wear sections in retail, the event had the participation of brands like Reebok, Nine West, Shoe Tree, Mango, Zapp! and Park Avenue among others. In addition to the Pure and Play conference, three other events were held alongside: Fashion Alliance supported India Brand Show, the retail exhibition – The Shop, and the Nokia Images CEO’s Meet.

The conference had some of the best minds from the business of fashion debating issues.

Rakesh Biyani, CEO, Future Retail, said, “Women are considered to be the most dominant shoppers. However, very little attention is paid to the kids and women wear segments.” He announced Future retail’s decision to launch a dedicated kids’ wear store while expanding their women’s wear brand Ethnicity. Participating in the show, Thorsten Allenstein, Country Head of Triumph, announced that Triumph India would be launching its first company owned store this August.

The exhibition, The Shop, provided an opportunity to retailers to pick up the best brands to merchandise in their stores.
