Dim sum festival at Blanco offers variety
|
Looking for something light to eat? Perhaps as a brunch? Then visit Blanco, a new age bistro at New Delhi’s Khan Market. At present, Blanco is hosting a dim sum festival with a wide variety on offer.
Drenched in the aroma of Oriental food, Blanco’s festival menu has dim sums like kiew tiew lot (steamed rice paper dim sum with mushroom and sprouts), shitake khapod (shitake mushrooms stuffed with silken tofu and corn), khanom chee chae (bite sized flour dim sums with vegetables), prawn nori (prawn wrapped with seaweed and flavoured with sesame) harkaw (crystal prawn dim sums), broccoli and crab dim sums, salapao basil chicken dim sums and sea basskoll.
To rustle up the festival, Blanco has used the expertise of Chef Thong Bai, claimed to be a renowned for his dim sums in Thailand and Hong Kong, Speaking about what makes a dim sum tick, Chef Thong feels, “The festival is an education programme for people here about what a dim sum exactly is.”
He continues, “The secret of making the most perfect dim sum is to remember that the sea food should be very fresh and yes, don’t forget to add flowers into it especially the lotus which is used majorly as an ingredient in dim sums.”
Food lore
These white steamed blobs of joy conjured by the chef just melts in your mouth.
Interestingly, he points out that while in China, it is called a rich man’s food, in Mongolia, Ladakh and Tibet, it is known as a poor man’s diet.
Blanco charges Rs.250 to 400 per plate of dim sums. The festival ends on July 25.
