Cricket masti
Cricket seems to be the flavour of all seasons in this country. After the successful IPL and India’s victory at the T20 world cup, purists and some players have been sending warning signals that the new version of the game would eventually dest
roy test cricket especially considering the England South Africa test just ended in a tame draw.
MetroPlus asked city residents about whether T20 cricket would eventually sound the death knell for test cricket. While some people felt that the newest version of the game would easily push out the oldest version of the pedestal, both in terms of capturing audiences and attracting good talent. Some felt that T20 was here to stay, but would impact One day cricket more than Test matches.
Some also argue that Test cricket remains the ultimate test of the character of any cricketer and no other form of cricket provides space for growth of actual cricketing talent.
They feel that one dayers will bear the brunt of the new format and will soon lose out on crowds. There are also optimistic people who feel that the way in which one day cricket transformed test cricket and made it more competitive and fast, T20 will also do the same for one-day cricket and make it more fun. We sample some responses
T20 is easily the most popular of all forms of cricket. It does not stretch on for days for a draw and instead provides instant results, complete with the excitement of the massive boundaries. The time factor will result in the end of test cricket.

T20 will not affect test matches as for most players and cricket aficionados; it remains the ultimate test of character of any cricketer. One-day matches will be hard hit as now people are able to see an interesting match in half the time that a one day match takes.

With the big hits, entertainment capsules and competitive matches, cricket’s growth depends on T20. Who wants to see a match that goes on for five days and could end without a result? T20 will soon dominate the cricket calendar

I never followed cricket earlier, but the IPL converted me. I feel that the future of the sport lies in the T20 format that would endear the game to sports freaks in the Americas. The fast-paced nature of the game will help attract more crowds and players.
