The truth about Poi...

Priyadarshan on his experience in "Poi Solla Porom

OPEN TO FRESH IDEAS Director Priyadarshan

As he is an established filmmaker, Priyadarshan had no qualms about working with a bunch of newcomers in "Poi Solla Porom", which he is co-producing with UTV. He is extremely confident about the script: "I loved the way this revenge story was narrated to me. There is power in it but no harsh action sequences. Instead, the script has been written intelligently. Isn't that fantastic?" He is all praise for his assistant Vijay who is directing the film. "This is the first time I am producing a film, and I thought, there are bound to be differences between the producer and the director. But since we are on the same wavelength it works out well."

Priyadarshan believes small films have a good market. "The Tamil film industry is always open to small films. I did not think I would make it in Hindi when I heard the script. I thought it would be more apt for a Tamil audience."

The producer is ecstatic about the climax of the film and says, "It was the most impressive part. We worked a lot to get it right."

Although the producer roped in a new director for the film, he is not too happy with some of the present generation of directors.

"They need to read a lot. No one seems to be doing that, and this is resulting in poor cinema. We are technically wellequipped, but the new set of directors needs to work hard on their scripts."

As an independent producer, he is not disturbed about being part of a corporate such as UTV.

"The film industry can grow with the help of corporates. We can take more risks when it comes to the budget, as there is plenty of money available. We need not worry about distribution as well.

Priyadarshan is releasing his second film as producer shortly, and will be directing Shah Rukh Khan's next venture "Billoo Barber", under SRK's home banner. Soon after this he is making "Hera Pheri 3" with Akshay Kumar and Paresh Rawal, his favourite actors.
