Dad’s cool

It’s a proud moment for actor Sarath Kumar. His svelte, twinkle-toed daughter Varalakshmi is making her debut in tinseldom with the Simbu starrer “Poda Podi.”

Says a happy papa, “I wanted her to have a good education first. After completing a B.Sc. in Microbiology, she went on to do a Masters in Business Management at Edinburgh University. It was her decision to join films. I couldn’t but support it, because she has a deep passion for acting. She has proved herself several times in stage shows such as “Cats” and “Jesus Christ Superstar.”

And she’s a well-trained dancer too. She’s good at salsa and ballet. Besides, she’s trained at Anupam Kher’s school for acting.

It was a great moment for me when the veteran actor (Kher) himself said Varalakshmi has all it takes to become a star. So I explained the pros and cons of the industry and launched her. With her sound marketing background, I’m sure she will create a brand name for herself. ‘Poda Podi’ is a script tailor-made for her.”

Having joined films, will she help papa in his political endeavours too? “I never influence anybody’s decision — whether it’s my wife or daughter. It’s up to them. But right now, I’ve asked Varu to stay focussed and prove herself in her chosen field,” smiles Sarath.
