Hyderabad is going to play host to a galaxy of stars from the field of dance. Nritya Sanrachana, a dance festival of choreographic works based on the concept of sankhya (numbers) by some of the leading and well-known dancer-choreog raphers of the country, is on from July 21 to 25 at Ravindra Bharati at 6.45 p.m.

The festival is being organised by Sangeet Natak Akademi, New Delhi, in collaboration with the Department of Culture of the Andhra Pradesh Government and Shankarananda Kalakshetra.

Nritya Sanrachana is one of the several events focusing on contemporary choreography organised by the Sangeet Natak Akademi in recent years.

Indian mythology and legends go hand in hand with numbers — from the ‘Dashavatara’, the 10 avatars of Lord Vishnu, to the ‘Pancha Bhuta’, the five elements, or the six seasons, ‘Shadrutu’. These ideas have been explored in various dance forms by various artistes.

Taking the stories and ideas woven around the prime numbers, the various legends, myths and ideas represented in Indian literature, arts and philosophy, will be presented in the myriad classical dance forms of India.

Two dance styles and two concepts, beginning with the number 10 and progressing towards ‘shoonya or zero, would be presented each day.

Bharati Shivaji and Ananda Shankar Jayant will kick off the programme on July 21.

They will be followed by Singhajit Singh and Prerana Shrimali on July 22, Swapnasundari and Anita Ratnam on July 23, Rajashree Shirke and Shashadhar Acharya on July 24. The last day of the festival will have performances by Raja Radha Reddy, Padma Subrahmaniam and Sonal Mansingh.
