The Steak and Sizzlers Festival at Avenue Regent is a treat for foodies

Food experience Try a range of vegetarian and meaty sizzlers

Are you finding daily khana rather too ‘ho-hum’? Then try out the ‘Steaks and Sizzlers Festival’ on at Avenue Regent. It’s a bonanza for meat lovers. Sit in the elegant interiors and partake of the impeccable service. L ight music plays in the background and you have all the privacy you could ask for. As for the food...

Warm up with a good starter – ‘Angel on Horseback’, which has bacon-wrapped prawns. Pate Maison , a signature meat dish, is served with an orange flavoured Cumberland sauce. Pasta con Pesto Siciliano with sliced and fried aubergines, Spaghetti alla Carbonara with bacon and cream sauce also make up the first course. As far as the vegetarian look-out goes, Pasta Neapolitan, with meaty tomatoes and black olives, based on a spicy sauce, is an option. French onion soup is based on reduced beef stock, which has been cooked for almost a whole day!

Chef’s special

Prawn Mango Salad, sweet and sour with ripe mangoes is one of Chef K. C. Joseph’s specialities. Those looking for fresh greens can try the Greek salad with feta cheese and olives. The Mediterranean chicken salad promises to be light. In the main course, Rouget Al Orientale- stuffed mullet with coriander, mint; Fillet De PesceAlrlesinne or pan-fried fish fillet with eggplant, crisp fried onion rings in garlic flavoured butter look promising. Or try the assorted Seafood Platter, a must-try for sea-food lovers.

Abhilash Elias, Junior Executive, points out that the Mixed Grill, an exotic combination of grilled cuts of lamb, beef and chicken is especially popular. Caneton Al ’Orange is essentially slices of stuffed roast duck laced with orange sauce. All the dishes are served with French fries, mashed potatoes or potato wedges. Boiled carrots, cauliflower, baby corn make up for the rest of the feast-on-a-platter..

The famous Chateaubriand, a large tenderloin steak served with Béarnaise sauce is rare and very filling.

Try Steak Diane, a tenderloin steak with mushrooms and tomatoes. Or else go for the Tournedos Rossinie, which is basically fillet mignon teamed up with croutons and Madeira sauce.

All is not purely non-vegetarian! On the vegetarian front, is an Oriental stir fried sizzler with necessary seasoning. The healthy Tofu Treasure complete with chef’s exclusive sauce and Oriental Braised Tofu with red wine and an oriental sauce are other vegetarian options.

Chinese preparations like the Golden fried duck, Chinese B.B.Q. Pork have charred meat surfaces done up in Soya sauce. All Chinese fare is served with Chinese fried rice, on the house.

“This festival attracts family crowds. The continental cuisine is a welcome change with the specially designed a la carte menuremarks Denny Joseph, Maitre D Hotel.

He adds, “ The steaks – they are medium, well done, generally preferred here, though some foreign customers do like them rare too.”

The desserts are worthy rivals for your indulgent attention! If chocolate excess sizzler is not your cup of tea, you could also try the fried ice cream or crepe suzette (to mention a few) leaving you hungry for (even) more!

Prices range between Rs. 125 and Rs. 500 for a dish. Drop in between 7 and 11 pm. Well, it’s chowtime folks!
