At VLCC’s convocation, beauty care was discussed as a tool for social uplift
|
Beauty is only skin deep. Or is it? To take beauty deeper than the skin level, VLCC moved towards a more holistic approach, towards complete wellness. Celebrating its fourth annual convocation ceremony, the VLCC Institute unveiled a new logo reflec
ting its fresh approach and announced a tie-up with Doncaster College, U.K., to provide higher studies to its students. Ambika Soni, chief guest at the event, lauded the work done by VLCC director Vandana Luthra and distributed certificates to the students from the Blind Relief Association. She stated that the tie-up would prove beneficial in providing trained experts to the industry. The Indian healing system was a major attraction for tourists from all over the globe, and skilled professionals in this field would also give a boost to the tourism industry, she said
“India is a ‘khazana’ of herbal and Ayurvedic treatments,” said Luthra, revealing that in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism, the institute would open medical spas in India to use this ‘khazana’ for attracting tourists. She spoke of the tie-up with Doncaster College as an attempt to create a fusion of Eastern and Western talent. Rowland Foote, Principal, Doncaster College, also expressed his hopes of a cultural exchange between Indian and British students.
Reaching out
Yashodhara Raje Scindia, one of the guests of honour, spoke about the Department of Sports and Youth Welfare in Madhya Pradesh set up in collaboration with VLCC. Luthra has promised to absorb the students into the VLCC Institute. “This provides a chance for students who cannot go to big cities to get the same quality training and education in this field.”
Shabana Azmi, also a guest of honour, reflected that the level of emancipation of women was a measure of a country’s development. Yashodhara expressed her admiration for Luthra whom she defined as a “role model”, and praised the institute’s social service — supporting NGOs like Amar Jyoti, Khushi, etc. Her point was highlighted by the ‘Bhangra on Wheels’ dance presented by disabled children from Amar Jyoti. As Shabana said, it was payback time for the entrepreneur.
