Get, set,.. Frames on China
Meet Beibei, Jingjing, Huanhuan, Yingying and Nini! These are the mascots for the Beijing Olympics, and you can see them at the Durbar Hall Art Gallery. An exhibition of photographs called ‘Beijing Welcomes You’ has been organised by the Kerala Lalithakala Akademi in association with Indian Society for Cultural Cooperation and Friendship.
This is the China all geared up for the Olympics. Therefore there are the striking visuals of the preparations for the games. The photo exhibition shows a different face, an aspect of China that somehow has never garnered enough attention.
It is a concise lesson on China, its history, culture and growth. Seeing the scale of the preparations for the Olympics is believing. The National Aquatic Centre also known as the Water Cube where the aquatic competitions will be held is a visually appealing architectural feat. Then there are the stunning shots of the renovated Beijing Workers Stadium, the Tianjin National Stadium, the Bird’s Nest National stadium and the shots of Pudong in Shanghai where other competitions will be held. There is of course the grand Olympic village.
The shot of the Great Wall of China dressed in the colours of the Olympic rings is stunning. The photo exhibition is not only related to the Olympics, but gives a photographic introduction to the famed Forbidden City, alleyways – the Hutongs, the courtyards – the Siheyuan, the Swan Lake – Kumming Lake, and the National Grand Theatre. A must see!
