Racing in Singapore

Take in the sights of Asia’s first Formula One street race

Singapore is all set to host the first ever night race and Asia’s first street race in Formula One history — from September 26-28. Touted to be one of the biggest highlights in the race calendar, the 2008 FORMULA 1 SingTel Singapore Grand Prix will be staged in the Marina Bay area.

Held in the heart of the city, the 5.067-km long street circuit will take you on a journey through Singapore’s culturally rich cityscape.

The race machines will zoom past heritage icons such as the cast iron Anderson bridge, the colonial style former Supreme Court and Parliament House. It will also pass the Cenotaph at the War Memorial Park commemorating fallen heroes of World War II, then across the world-class Esplanade — Theatres on the Bay, the distinctive Merlion, the 165m tall Singapore Flyer. Three day Grandstand passes start at S$248 for the Bay Grandstand to S$1,388 for the Pit Grandstand.

Complementing the race is the Singapore GP Season of events, to be held over three weekends from September 20 to October 5. It will showcase various Formula One themed activities, entertainment events and lifestyle festivals as well as shopping and dining promotions.

Making its debut during the Singapore Grand Prix is the Singapore River Festival (September 19-28) which will see the historic district dazzle with nightly festivities.

Highlights include concerts on the river by international artistes, outdoor parties, exotic exhibition of Vietnam’s history and rare treasures, food and beverage promotions, and a float parade on the river, alongside famous party hotspots such as The Ministry of Sound, Kandi Bar by Hed Kandi and Fashion Bar by FashionTV located at Clarke Quay.
