View V. V. Ramani’s collages at his recently-opened atelier

The concept of an atelier or artist’s studio where the artist both works and displays his/her art is popular in Europe. Chennai artist V. V. Ramani too has opened an atelier in the city by throwing open his collection of collages, stacked in hi s home studio, to art lovers.

The gallery, which was recently inaugurated, showcases the artist’s unconventional and unique work.

A product of the Madras School of Art, he has launched this initiative with the primary motive of promoting interaction and dialogue between the artist and the art lover.

The collages span a variety of themes and the iconography ranges from the mythological to the metaphysical. While the vocabulary in some of them is rich in imagery, the others convey a sense of serenity with their simplicity.

The collection can be viewed at Flat No. S. 47, “Fort Indraprastha”, 45, Kalakshetra Road, Thiruvanmiyur, ph: 98402 38356.
