My eyelashes and eyebrows have been turning grey over the last 10 years. I’ve been told to avoid dyeing them. How can I prevent greying and what can I do to hide the existing grey hair. Jayshree

Dye should not be applied to the eyelashes and eyebrows. Greying of eyelashes and eyebrows is due to internal reasons. The exact cause is not known. Ask a doctor if you could take Vitamin C. It may help check greying. Or, add the juice of one raw amla to a glass of water and drink it daily, since amla is said to prevent greying. You can hide your grey eyelashes with mascara and use an eyebrow pencil on your eyebrows.

My hair becomes rough after it is shampooed. Suggest a home remedy.— Akshita

Twice a week heat pure coconut oil and apply it on the scalp and hair. Dip a towel in hot water, squeeze out the water and wrap the towel around the head like a turban. Keep it on for 5 minutes. Repeat the hot towel wrap 3 or 4 times. This helps the hair and scalp absorb the oil better. Use a mild herbal shampoo. Use less shampoo and rinse your hair well with water. The shampoo may be causing the dryness. Dilute it with a little water before applying it. One application is enough. After shampooing your hair, rinse it with beer. Add the juice of a lemon to the beer. Use it as a last rinse, leaving it on for a few minutes before rinsing it off with plain water. Applying curd or egg yolk half an hour before a shampoo bath also helps.

I have oily skin. I’m getting pimples and they are leaving scars on my face. What should I do to remove the scars and oiliness? Application of multani mitti helps, still my skin is oily. Vrinda

The pimples have to be controlled; otherwise they will keep erupting and leaving marks. After washing your face, apply an astringent lotion, using cotton wool. Mix a little rose water with sandalwood paste and apply it on the entire face, washing it off after 15 minutes with plain water. Mix cinnamon powder with a little lemon juice and few drops of honey into a paste. Apply it only on the pimples daily, leaving it on for at least an hour. Mix multani mitti with rose water and lemon juice into a paste and apply it three times a week. Wash it off when it dries. You can also apply it daily, if you wish. Include fresh fruits, raw salads, sprouts and yoghurt in your daily diet. Drink 6 to 8 glasses of water daily. Add the juice of a lemon to a glass of water and drink it first thing in the morning.
