Let your hair down

Want hair as thick as Rapunzel’s? Read on

Lustrous hair Add volume by using the right products

All women want a head full of thick hair — regardless of length or style. Sadly not everyone is born with it. Still don’t let those limp locks weigh on your mind as there are expert tips to help your hair at least appear to be thicker an d fuller — even when it isn’t.

The wrong shampoo can weigh hair down making it appear limp and lifeless. Be sure to use shampoos, conditioners and styling products that are formulated specifically for fine hair; these are often called volumising solutions.

Cover your scalp with henna and rinse well. It’ll make hair appear thicker.

Cold shower

Before stepping out of the shower, adjust the temperature so that cooler water runs over your hair for a few seconds. A cold rinse seals in a bit of the conditioner and washes off any remaining residue.

Your hair feels squeaky clean with lots of body and shine.

For more body and shine, mix one tablespoon of vinegar and seven ounces of water in a spray bottle; spritz it on after shampooing and conditioning. Leave it on for three-five minutes, then rinse thoroughly.

Keeping your hair chin to shoulder-length gives it maximum body, which in turn helps make it look thicker. To add volume, consider a style with lot of layers.

Colouring all your hair makes it appear thicker but as chemical roughens the cuticle its better to opt for henna as its coating helps hair appear thicker; without any damage.

Adding colour streaks throughout (a shade or two lighter or darker than your natural colour) creates depth and dimension, making hair appear fuller.

It’s an optical illusion. For fine hair, mousse makes a better styling aid because it does not weigh hair down.

For an even lighter hold mist on a mousse spray.

Velcro rollers are also a fast, simple way to pump up volume.

Wrap thin sections of hair around the rollers and leave for a few minutes to set, then take them off. Before winding remember to shampoo, towel dry hair and apply mousse to the roots for that terrific lift.
