Conclave The buzz of students at The Enclave
Bharata Mata College
The Hangout: The Enclave. The Bharata Mata College (BMC) located at Thrikkakara wears a trendy look. With neatly laid roads, well-maintained buildings and loaded with new age courses, BMC, as it’s popularly known, has an appearance of a new generation college. And ‘The Enclave’ is a destination relished by all, making it the ‘most wanted’ hangout in the campus.
Rush Hour: 1 to 2 p.m. Like the canteen, ‘The Enclave’ is also a place in BMC campus, where one can find the presence of students even after class hours. However, the ‘houseful’ time happens to be the lunch hour. Sadly, The Enclave’s popularity has, in a way, turned out to be its bane too. The place is being fenced by the college authorities now, presumably to restrict the entry of ‘strangers’ to this most sought after hangout.
Where it’s at: The Enclave is positioned right in front of the Commerce Department and is bordered by the college ground on its one side. Unmistakably, it’s the location that has transformed the fortunes of this secluded corner. With abundance of trees and flowery plants, The Enclave has a charm of its own. But, now it’s being cordoned off citing security reasons. A gate and a security cabin are also being constructed by the side of the drive way leading to The Enclave. The students lament the new move taken by the college administration. “Till the other day it was our paradise, but with the enclosure coming in, it has turned out to be our ‘lost paradise,’” remarks a student with a dejected smile.
What’s to love:
The park-like ambience of The Enclave is bound to fascinate anyone reaching the place. Its vantage positioning helps the bunking students to stay away from the probing eyes of faculty members.
The nationally accredited Bharata Mata College is leaving no stone unturned in its attempt to rise to the expectations of the new millennium. The campus that overlooks the pivotal Seaport-Airport Road, has always strived to provide their wards with the best available infrastructure. It’s got regular and self financing departments in Commerce. A separate block has been allocated for MBA and one for MCA is underway. In the co-curricular side National Cadet Corps (NCC) and National Service Scheme (NSS) is also quite active at Bharata Mata. What’s not to:
No specific restrictions are clamped on the students as, generally, nothing untowardly happens from their part. The campus is devoid of students’ politics as the management has banned the same.
Alternatives:
Since the campus is a sprawling one, BMC has too many hang outs to boast of. The two-wheeler parking shed in front of the canteen is a favourite hangout of boys while the students of self-finance block, with their restricted freedom, prefer to hang around the Stone Seat located right in front of the Self Finance Block. The rostrum around a tree in front of the Main Block, the steps leading to the Cardinal Parecattil Auditorium, Bharata Mata’s Eiffel Tower, a prototype of the original one in front of the canteen, are the other hotspots in the BMC campus that are habitually inhabited by the students, both girls and boys.
