Travel stories come alive

thetravelrag.com is a great platform for travel writing and photography

out and about Iceland is one of the countries listed on the website

One life. No plan. Many adventures. At thetravelrag.com, contributors take this motto quite seriously.

Adventurers who’ve been to some of the world’s most fascinating destinations gather here to showcase their travel writing and photography. Their home page features the latest articles from across the globe and are accompanied by photographs and detailed reviews. Most articles end with contact information for prospective tourists, links to other sites that will give them information on the place and YouTube videos related to the article.

The photographs, which are sorted by continent, are anything but amateurish and are worth a look. Click on the ‘Wallpapers’ link for free downloads of travel pictures to use on your desktop.

In the section titled ‘Radio’, there is a list of audio travel stories that you can listen to.

In ‘Spotlight’, you can select a region and browse through stories about its history and politics or see cities through the eyes of an anxious first-time visitor. If you want to submit content or pictures, click on ‘Contribute to TTR’ but check out their guidelines for submission before you send in your writing.

You can subscribe to the free newsletter or RSS feeds and share pages you like on Facebook.

Like others of its kind, the website isn’t a comprehensive online travel resource as the content is user-generated and is restricted to the more well-known tourist haunts.

It’s more like a library for leisure reading than an encyclopaedia of information.

This means you might not necessarily find reviews or pictures of every destination you look for and might have to be the first one to submit your travelogue for future visitors to read.
