|
Adventure enthusiasts will fall in love with Uttarakhand. Believe it or not, this State has a whopping 112 trekking routes!
Bestowed with 12 national and reserve forests, including the Valley of Flowers, Nanda Devi Biosphere, Corbett National Park and Rajaji National Park, Uttarakhand is also the source of the rivers Ganga, Yamuna and Saradha.
Just 150 km away from Delhi, Uttarakhand (formerly Uttaranchal) offers packages for trekkers on different routes such as Pindari-Kafni glaciers, Panchachuli glacier, Sunderdhunga Valley,Nandadevi, Adi-Kailash and Kailash Mansarovar.
Kumaon district, which has magnificent snow capped mountain peaks, rushing rivers and valleys full of flowers, also offers adventure activities such as mountain holiday camps, aero sports, rock-climbing, water sports and fresh water fishing.
The trek to Adi-Kailash, which has been opened recently, also combines pilgrimage.
Breathtaking views
This route offers breathtaking views of the snow-capped Api and Nampa, the gushing Kali river, Bhojpatra forests and numerous waterfalls. In the last village in the valley, Kuti, one gets to see the Pandava Fort and natural salt mines.
If you just want to have the feel of the Himalayas, then Dehradun, would be a good spot.
The attractions here include the Tibetan Temple on Rajpur Road, Sahastradhara, where the Baldi River and caves make for an ideal picnic spot, the Malsi Deer Park and Bhagirathi forest.
It is also a favourite pilgrimage spot — Gangotri, Yamunotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath make up the CharDham.
