Language is no barrier, proclaims the Lucky girl Sneha, as she decides to give Telugu films a try
|
RARING TO GO Sneha Ullal stayed at home idle for six months waiting for a stimulating role
Sneha Ullal is prompt in answering her smses. No assistants, no PR managers. “I’m very particular about that. The last time I hired one I goofed up on the protocol and they were actually doing my interviews. All I got was a bad reputation. They manage you very well but I believe that out of sight is out of mind. I want to talk, know people,” says the dainty and petite actress.
A Mangalorean, Sneha was born and brought up in Muscat and moved to Mumbai later. While doing her graduation, she got her first break in Salman Khan’s “Lucky” and thereafter did five more films out of which three are ready for release. “Ullasanga Utsahanga” is almost done and Sneha opines it is a superb launch for her as the story revolves around her. She plays a complex role here and the reason why she chose to work down south is that she was bugged with the same innocent and childish roles being offered. She says: “I want to grow, language is no barrier. For ‘Ullasanga Utsahanga’, I would come to Hyderabad for discussions every month. I was so involved with the character that I started living with it at home.”
In Mohan Babu’s son Manoj’s film, she is playing one of those two girls who is trying to get the hero in a different kind of way. Riya Sen’s and Sneha’s role is pretty equally distributed. “Nenu Neeku Telusa” is coming out in September. There is one Hindi horror film by Sangeet Sivan and a light kidnap comedy by Ashok Tyagi.
The actor adds that for a stimulating role she stayed at home idle for six months and spurned innumerable offers.
Finally, she accepted an English film about an NRI girl settled in the USA. So, have her colleagues started comparing her to Aishwarya, too? She replies instantly but sounds slightly bored. “I used to get bugged earlier but not anymore. Anyone would love to be called and be known by their own name. But, I guess, it’s okay with me. Aishwarya is not an ugly woman. By making a comparison aren’t they indirectly giving me a compliment?”
Sneha has an older sister, Sowmya Bhatia, who is a designer and handles the actress’ clothes. So what does she do most of the time in Mumbai?
“My friends find me pretty boring, I party very rarely, maybe once in six months. I don’t smoke or drink so people are not very happy having me around. I love playing football or video games, playing cards. Otherwise, I play with my two dogs and a cat.”
Sneha is beginning to like Hyderabad but is clueless about the banners and production houses. So whom does she rely on for counsel?
She quips: “My mom is my manager. I don’t know who’s good and who’s bad, I don’t want to get into the industry politics. All I know is I want to work in a tension-free atmosphere, listen to the story and be around with nice people. No negative vibes for me, absolutely!”
