It is a cosy, neat store at Gem Plaza, Infantry Road. Called Juel, the place offers designs created by Anjana Das. Coming from the family of Chemmanur Jewellers, it was natural for Anjana to have a passion for jewellery. Anjana took to the study of gemology. Trained in Mumbai, she designed for her family and later started this store in February 2008. Juel offers designs in three categories — retro, huesin and Anjana Das. The retro collection has an old-world-charm to it. The designs are priced at Rs. 4,000 upwards. This section offers earrings, bangles, necklaces and finger rings. You can buy each one in a set or even as an independent piece. The best thing about this section is the texture of the gold. While Anjana has used plenty of flat diamonds in her designs, she has also given the gold a matte look, which gives it an antique appearance. The flat diamonds used in these collections come in champagne colour. This section also offers the “eternity range,” which is a whole selection of designs loaded with the flat diamonds. This collection is priced at Rs. 10,000 onwards. “They are expensive but more affordable than the cut diamonds,” explains the store manager.
All the designs are created in 18 karat gold and the store caters exclusively for women, he adds. So, most designs are very delicate and you see lots of flowers and curves in them. The Huesin range offers jewellery in coloured stones. These are mostly semi-precious natural stones such as topaz, sapphire, amethyst and so on. Amethyst is used in the colours of green and pink. This range starts at Rs. 5,000.
There is also a range where Anjana has used yellow, white and pink gold. “The pink gold gets its colour from its copper content,” he explains. The Anajana Das collection is the prettiest of the lot. She has used plenty of natural brown colour diamonds in this range. And each piece is unique and the look is so delicate that it surely would be any woman’s delight. This range is priced between Rs. 5,000 and Rs. 80,000.
