DATE & TIME

VENUE Sir Mutha Venkatasubba Rao Concert Hall, Harrington Road
Watch a group of ambitious young people, each driven by a ruthless urge to win, compete against each other. You have seen them on reality shows. You’ve probably seen them at the office. And now, Q Theatre Productions puts them on stage.
“The President Is Coming” explores the dog-eat-dog world of constant competition, reality television and short-lived fame. And though it might be a brutally honest look at a stunningly hard-nosed, calculating generation, it still manages to laugh at their foibles and plotting, and make you laugh too in the process.
In March 2006, President Bush made a four-day State visit to India — the first official visit of a U.S. head of state to this country in a long time. One of his main goals was to meet some of the young faces responsible for shaping the “new India.” Which takes you right into this world, peopled by startlingly familiar characters. A world where six ambitious Indians will stop at nothing because The President Is Coming. Fast-paced and funny, the play is a mix of political satire and farce. Sometimes, it’s even slapstick. And throughout the play there’s writer Anuvab Pal’s ironic wit.
The play was first staged as part of the Writer’s Bloc Festival in Mumbai, and has since been staged 25 times to enthusiastic Mumbai audiences. This is the first time it travels outside its home city.
