Of Mrignayanee’s exquisite hand-made products
|
Intricate One of the displays at the show
Colourful, mirror-studded terracotta works at the entrance of the exhibition hall set the flavour for Mrignayanee’s handicrafts and handloom exhibition.
Showcasing their mastery are 50 craftspersons from Madhya Pradesh, who have brought things as diverse as textiles, moulded brass icons, block-printed fabric, sequined bags, jute products, and figurines of animals crafted out of papier-mâché and leather.
Chamki and zari work blend effortlessly to embellish the kumkum box and paandan. Also on view are Bhopal’s sequined zari and bead bags, and a variety of sequined, chamki and zardosi-embellished everyday bags and velvet clutch bags. Equally well-crafted are Madhya Pradesh’s attractive papier-mâché bird forms and Tikamgarh’s brass icons and animal forms. One can pick up icons crafted in marble, bell metal artefacts, and silver and jute jewellery.
The show celebrates the forthcoming festive season with its saris, fabrics and textiles. Beautiful handwoven Maheshwaris with dense borders, ethereal and gossamer thin chanderis, the rough-textured tussars, muted Bagh prints … there’s an endless variety.
The show is on till August 6 at Sri Sankara Hall, TTK Road, Alwarpet.
