Whenever there is a gap between supply and demand, power cut is unavoidable. What should we do - increase power generation or reduce power consumption? There should be an effective monitoring of the supply and demand, private captive power plants need to be encouraged with incentives. Industries should be asked to go for more energy conservation exercises. Energy management and auditing should be made compulsory in all industries. The public must be made to realise the value of electricity and the absence of power. All the electrical equipment must be certified for energy efficiency. Electricity board should minimise the line and distribution losses. Power theft needs to be identified and penalised.
