Down and out
Frequent power cuts have made the common man restless. Sweltering heat during the day and mosquito menace in the night without the basic comfort of fans make power cuts irksome. Insufficient power generation from the windmills of the State and lack of adequate water in dams affecting hydro-power generation are some of the reasons put forth to justify the necessity of power cuts, which have affected production. Power scarcity hits agricultural output too. Failure of monsoon necessitates pumping of ground water using electric pumps. Power cuts in such circumstances worsen the situation. Production suffers impacting the price of commodities in the market and aggravating inflation conditions prevailing in our country. The only comforting thought is that unannounced power cuts have been replaced by scheduled power cuts.
