Almost every house in the country today has electrical appliances like television, air-conditioner, radio and washing machine. As a result, there is an increase in demand for electricity. There is a shortfall between demand and supply due to several reasons like lack of rainfall or misuse of electricity. The Tamil Nadu Electricity Board attributes the power cuts to tripping in the grid caused by a mismatch between generation and demand. Since such tripping could cause heavy damage to high voltage equipment, load shedding was being effected. Unless we learn to save electricity, such power cuts may become inevitable.
