A solo show

Sonu Kakkar’s debut album

Remember the raunchy Bollywood number “Babuji zara dheere chalo” from the film Dum which took the music charts by storm some time ago? The singer of this chartbuster, Sonu Kakkar is back with a promise to recreate the same old magic with her debut album Don’t Touch Me! In New Delhi to promote the album released at Hotel Jaypee Siddharth the other day, Sonu sounded excited about the venture, saying it would be “a blockbuster as it has the lethal combination of the ace fours – composer Sandeep Chowta, lyricist Sameer, the music label Sony BMG and myself.” Sonu said her voice “has always been synonymous with item songs,” and the album would portray her versatility.

Eight tracks

Don’t Touch Me has eight original songs ranging from “dance numbers to meaningful ballads, soulful romantic songs to rustic ones set to folk tunes.” The album’s lead song “Jeena”, a soulful track, would be featured in Mani Shanker’s upcoming movie Mukhbir. the title track is an energetic dance song, the promos of which are now on air.

Sonu’s natural flair and spunky singing style got noticed when she participated on the Channel V talent hunt Popstars. Although she was not selected in the contest, Sandeep Chowta, one of the judges in the show, gave her a break with the song “Babuji Zara Dheere Chalo”. Since then, there has been no looking back for Sonu who went on to bag the Best Debutant Singer MTV Immies Awards.
