Art Colours inspire Manoj Kachangal
|
Many hues A work by Manoj Kachangal
At a recent art exhibition at the Visual Art Gallery, Indian Habitat Centre, Manoj Kachangal, a young artist, displayed his artworks. The exhibition was followed by a documentary on his life. On the occasion, he also released a book “Doors of P
erception” which was also the theme of his exhibition.
“I want my art to reflect the soul of my subject, not merely the body. ‘Doors of Perception’ is about clarity, insight and natural beauty and this particular series of my paintings is mainly inspired by the crimson petals of semul and palash flowers,” said Manoj Kachangal. His statement was justified by the extensive use of red and yellow in his paintings along with the combination of blue, green and brown. Black was also used but more as a gesture than as a colour.
The paintings were a blend of the abstract and the landscapes. Arranged and created as a series, the paintings had a dynamic feel to them. His acrylic on canvas and paper paintings were appreciated by everyone present at the launch event. Ratnottma Sengupta, an art critic, said that she has noticed immense changes in Manoj. And his recent compositions include the “fastness of nature and openness of sky”.
The documentary, directed by Pravesh Bhardwaj, describes his journey from a college student to a known painter in relatively short span. The book, based on the paintings of Manoj Kachangal, was released by Rajeev Lochan, Director, National Gallery of Modern Art. It also covered the reviews of some eminent painters and art critics and a part of it is on his personal life.
