Million dollar question

Politics is about principles and values. It is for the welfare of the people and not for any single individual’s self-interest. Everyone feels that somebody should set right things. But who will take the lead? That is a million dollar question.

K. Arun

A blend of both

Politics is a mix of both principles and money. Today, who doesn’t want to earn money and so politicians are no different. People just can’t criticise politicians for the facilities, attention and power they get. Making money doesn’t mean minting money by bribing orother unhealthy practices As long as there are a few genuine leaders, the government will concentrate on principles.

Amreen Hamza

Race for money

Politics, of late, has become a race for power and money. We see politicians going to any length to secure their candidature and, once elected, vest all their time in swindling more money with development out of the spotlight. Cases of bribery, corruption, politicians using money to instigate communal tension in society indicate how money-centric and vicious politics has turned in to.

Lalitha Swathi vadrevu

Show me the money

Politics represents only two things: money and power. It is about principles, yes, between these criminals. Show me one politician who has not prospered after joining politics. They join politics come to make money. Prakash and Mandakini Amte, the couple who got Magsaysay Award, are serving people. But they are not into politics. One does not need a political licence to serve people.

Satyanarayana Murthy

Eyeing profits

Gone are the days when people used to join politics to serve the common man.

Now, politicians are very smart as they make use of the opportunities to the fullest in making profits.

G. Sandeep Kumar

Electoral reforms please

Today, politics has greatly degenerated. During pre-Independence days, politics and patriotism went together. Now, making money has become the motto of politicians.

Politics without ethics pollutes democracy as was seen during the recent confidence vote in the Lok Sabha.

Parties and candidates are spending money hundreds of times more than is permitted by the law during the election campaign.

Now, only goondas and rowdies can become MLAs and MPs. Electoral reforms are the only solution to cleanse public life.

Money governs politics

Even if politicians make up their mind, there are several factors at work like the thirst for status, influence of superiors, an individual’s compulsion to stick to the rules of his/her party. which may override their decision to follow principles. Eventually money becomes the governing factor.

Sri Dinesh Kolluru

Principally about money

Politics is about both principles and money just as management is about both art and science.

The epic Mahabharata is an example of how Kauravas played politics with Pandavas.

Where were the principles when Yudishtir lost himself in gambling and put Paanchali on offer as a slave?

If politics was solely about principles, there would not be many gruesome acts which the world is currently witnessing.

Principles are one thing, but money wins elections. And as so often happens in politics, the desirable principle outweighs the undesirable principle. Politics is principally about money.

Padmini Pisipati

Think positive

With time, everything changes. Politics is not beyond this. In the past, there were two guiding forces that encouraged people to join politics.

These were principles and patriotism. The modern politician can only see currency notes. Yet, all leaders are not corrupt. But the lion’s share goes to corrupt ones.

This subsequently jeopardises the strong democratic foundations in our country.

Still, let us strive and hope for a brave new generation to emerge and be in politics on the basis of principles and not money.

K. Akash Yadav

Time for a change

In India, money plays a major role in politics. Money is the sole need of every human and politics is a convenient way to earn it. A minister gets a regular salary.

Besides, there are various other sources of income and several privileges. Bribes are frequently accepted to change sides.

But still there are people who consider principles in politics more important than attaining money. If principles remain a part of political life, in such cases the welfare of the country is placed above self-interest.

If people take politics as a closure of principles and implement them in the correct way then our country can make its place among the leading nations of the world.

T. S. Aarthi

It’s all about money

Politics is no more about principles.

As most of the politicians are craving only for money. We see the ruling party members giving money to the opposition party members to join their party. After winning, they eat away the money which was meant for public projects.

The present politics is only for money.

A.Lavanya

Hope for a new generation

Earlier, it was principles and patriotism, for which people joined politics. But the modern politician is attracted to currency notes.

However, all the leaders are not corrupted. But majority of them are. This jeopardise the democratic foundations. Let us hope for a brave new generation to run politics on the basis of principles and not money.

Akash Yadav

Money is the motive

Politics in general has no place for people with principles. While announcing their entry into politics, people say that they want to serve poor, the motive would be to expand the business of their kith and kin.

Gone are the days, when leader enter politics would donate everything for the public cause. Now the motive is how to grab.

N. Nagarajan

Game of politics

Politics is about money as well as principles but, weights more on the money side. Forgetting the principles and thinking more of money will surely lead the politician to quit this game one day. However, a person thinking of principles, people etc. but not money will be the master in this game of ‘Politics’
