Wacky and wonderful
Succinctly put, “Creeper” was all of this — a sparse set, a brilliant cast of two and an awesome script.
Although “Creeper” claimed to be a modern take on Vikram and Betal, I could not fathom the connection between the two. However the director did later clarify that the script could exist as a standalone.
A closed trunk placed centre stage aroused audience’s interest even before the play began.
The cast jumped up from the audience, ran onstage and flagged off a tense portrayal with enough comic moments to ease the mood. The funny rather ‘punny’ beginning belied an emotional drama with thought-provoking questions on ‘digital debris’, depression, its medication and even the apathy of the middle class to events around them.
The performance was highly charged, engaging and excellently timed assisted by exceptional lighting.
It was surprising that a play with such a transient plot could be so riveting.
