Enjoyable

The Suit”, in 70 minutes, captures the brutal effects of power on both the aggressor and the overpowered. The perversity bordering on insanity brought on by a shocking loss of innocence is acted out very well by the male lead playing Bunty. The extreme shift in Bunty’s personality from youthful exuberance to the seemingly normal but tormented torturer is played with élan. The passion for life that Minna has and her meek submissiveness is portrayed accurately. However, the actress does not do adequate justice in bringing out the feeling of anguish that Minna experiences when she realises the enormity of what she’s done. A cluttered stage and the attempts at providing comic relief by engaging the audience were rather distracting. The indigenisation of the “The Suit” and the introduction of musical elements were refreshing. Kudos to the cast and team of this enjoyable play.
