The bond and its bind

Rakhi provides an ideal occasion to celebrate the eternal bond of love between brothers and sisters

I started my singing career with my sister. She has always been a special person in my life. Though Bengalis celebrate Bhai Duj in a more lavish manner than Rakhi but being away from Kolkata for long, our celebration of rakhi became almost mandatory. Although Sagarika has moved to America now, we still share our views quite often. She is married for about eight years and has become busy with her event management company, still she doesn’t forget to send a Rakhi to me. And I send her anything she wants as a gift from her younger brother and the closest pal.”

Singer Shaan about his elder sister Sagarika

I celebrate Rakhi with all the festivities.

I have a sacred place in my heart for my sister. She lives in a different city but we regularly talk over phone or through the Internet.

She never forgets to send a rakhi to me. Like always, she has already sent me a card and rakhi for this year too.

I know her likes and dislikes so there will be a special gift for her this time too, a surprise present is on her way.”

Actor Rahul Dev about his sister Rashmi Kaushal

“Rakhi is my favourite festival. I always look forward to this occasion. This is the celebration of the beautiful bond between a brother and sister.

On this occasion, I miss my sister who is currently in London. Though she has not adopted the habit of sending an e-rakhi yet!

For this occasion, my sister sends me a letter with a rakhi. I have already received my rakhi for this year.”

TV actor Chaitanya Choudhury, known for his roles in soaps like “Kahiin To Hoga”, about his sister Pooja

When we were kids, our bua (paternal aunt) would come home to tie rakhi on my father. We also used to sing our traditional songs in Pashto language. Very early in life, we learnt that things are immaterial and only relationships are everlasting. As I now live in Canada, quite a few times, I couldn’t celebrate rakhi with my brother.

However, this year I am in India and my sister Pammi and I will be spending the whole day together with our brother. We will go for lunch after all the rituals and may be for dinner as well. Really, kismat wale hote hai wo, jinke bhai behan hote hain.”

Singer Jaspinder Narula about her brother Mickey

I do not celebrate Rakhi. However, I have great respect for this festival. I think the custom of tying rakhi is a very sweet gesture. I share a great bond with my elder brother.

Even though I don’t tie rakhi on my brother’s wrist,I emotionally blackmail him and goad him to give me loads of gifts on this occasion.”

TV actress Jennifer Winget, the lead character of the soap Sangam on Star Plus, about her brother Moses
