Talent hunt

Entries are invited for devotional music singers

The Sona group has instituted the Sona Devotional Music Awards 2008. Said to be the first-of-its kind, the talent hunt “aims to recognise and reward the best singers in the genre of devotional music.”

The goodness

“We want the Indian youths to relish the goodness of devotional music,” say the organisers. The event is patronised by singers Anup Jalota and Jagjit Singh who will also be jury members.

The contest is open to all residents of India between the ages of 18 and 35. Participants need to make a recording of two types of devotional songs, each of five minute duration, in their own voice.

The songs can be in the form of bhajans, kirtans, aarti, doha or sufi. Applicants should then send their recordings on a CD or cassette to Ms. Rupali, G-5, 6th Floor, Sangam Bhavan, Brahmakumari Marg, Colaba, Mumbai, 400050 or call 022-22828894.

The last date to send in your recording is September 15.
