SIMPLE PLAN

IMI, (CD)

Simple Plan is a Montreal-based punk-pop group that has seen platinum sales of its two albums largely because of intense touring. In fact, the two albums, one of which was the no-holds barred “No Pads, No Helmets...Just Balls”, sold seven million copies worldwide. Two years back, the quintet scaled down on concerts to write some new music. And last year the band went into the studio to work on its third album, the self-titled “Simple Plan”. The effort of cutting back on gigs to some serious music shows.

Each track has an identity of its own. On its official website, Simple Plan says the third album is not just an album but a statement of artistic ambition and growth. Simple Plan fans would tend to agree.

The new equation has 11 songs that are unquestionably Simple Plan but still sound unlike anything they’ve done before, from the loping synthesiser loops of the opening track and first song, “When I’m Gone,” to the tight dance groove and R&B flavour of “The End,” the hip-hop styled beat of “Generation,” and the unabashed power balladry of “I Can Wait Forever.”

From guitar riffs and wild shouting to R&B beat and a number that suspiciously is reminiscent of pop music, it’s all there in this beautiful compilation. A nice CD to have in your collection.
