This classic French dish is, gastronomically speaking, miles away from the idli-sambhar routine. Creamy cheese sauce gets blended with mashed potatoes in this exquisite dish. The best part, no trace of oil.

Sliced potatoes are layered in a dish after seasoning with pepper and minced onions. A dash of butter is added to spice up the French flavour. Milk, flour and salt are blended and boiled, before adding the cheese. The rich, tasty mixture is spread over the potatoes, and baked to a velvety consistency.
