Baggy replaces skinny jeans

Boyfriend jeans and jackets are a rage now

Hang loose

If you thought skinny jeans would reign forever, here is some good news. Boyfriend jeans and jackets are the latest rage. Everyone, from Victoria Beckham and Katie Holmes to Jennifer Aniston, is showing off the revamped baggy look.

Experts give us a fashion forecast. “Baggy has been in for quite sometime now. From the tom-boyish cargo trousers to the ultra chic harem pants, baggy is definitely the way to go,” says fashion design student Karuna Rampal.

As we all know, it is collegians who are the first to experiment. Svetlana Gracias, studying Business Administration, says, “I absolutely love this look as it hides as many flaws as possible.”

Boyfriend jeans with their comfort fit are also preferred as they are low-maintenance. According to Atisha, another collegian, “The out-sized jeans are ideal to slip into for a casual day at work or a shopping trip. They make great college wear. One needn’t wake up wondering what to wear to hide flabby thighs or broad waist. One can trust a pair of boyfriend jeans blindly.”

This could be a growing trend but fashion designer Ameetha Mathew feels, “This isn’t among those trends that people, especially the younger lot, would follow mainly because they would rather flaunt their body than cover it up in a pair of boyfriend jeans or an oversized jacket.”

Karuna attributes another reason why not many would go in for this look. “Donning a pair of baggy pants is not something a girl would want to do on an everyday basis. Some girls would rather be innovative with existing trends than blindly follow a newer style.”

While the more adventurous are willing to go with this trend, others feel slim fit jeans still win hands down. Fashion experts tell us that the loose fits are meant for those who are tall and leggy. Short people would look shorter in baggy trousers.

A pair of boyfriend jeans looks best when teamed with a casual T-shirt which you could even tuck in and let a broad stylish belt complete the look. A spaghetti top is another option.

As far as matching footwear is concerned, Ameetha says, “Flats are ideal. Flip-flops go best with the boyfriend jeans. They’re simple and casual yet smart.”
