Make a Difference (MAD) is among the 12 finalists in Ashoka’s global competition for young social entrepreneurs. And that is no mean feat given that they had to contend with 521 entries from 61 countries, and also that MAD is the only entry fro
m India that has made to the top 12. Ashoka is one of the largest social entrepreneurship sites in the world. Social entrepreneurs, according to Ashoka’s website, create innovative solutions, delivering extraordinary results and improving the lives of millions of people. Ashoka works on the belief that everyone can “make a difference”, where every individual can address a social problem and cause change.
The entries for the award showed a project which showed young people involved in making innovative changes.
MAD is an organisation of young people which works with underprivileged kids, empowering them by providing them with quality education so that they can stand on their feet. MAD has incorporated teaching computer skills as part of the curriculum for these kids.
“If we win, we get invited to a youth summit in Boston where the real heavyweights of the world will be. People like Google and Microsoft. We get to pitch our cause on a global platform plus we get to represent our country,” says Jithin Chacko Nedumala of MAD.
