Thrill factor Genelia tries rock climbing while shooting for the film
We must have seen Genelia as the bubbly girl at least half a dozen times but the audience is not tired and so is the actress. Genelia is packing her bags, leaving for her shoot in South Africa. Amidst her hectic schedule, she chats with Metro Plus about her upcoming release Sashirekha Parinayam.
Sashirekha’s story is a journey through a women’s heart and each woman will identify with it. Everyday we think twice before doing something but Sashirekha is different.
She speaks her heart and there is no diplomacy in her banter; she is free spirited, independent and above all questions the practice of dowry and runs away from home when she finds a price tag being attached to her.
Bommarillu, Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na, Dee, Ready and now Sashireka Parinayam. Has it been a conscious decision to choose similar roles or was she falling in the trap of stereotyped characters? The actress replies, “One needs to have a blend of song, dance and well-etched characters in a movie and I must say I am lucky to have had both. I am not just running around trees. In an industry that is hero dominated, within a short time I have made a mark.
The credit goes to my directors who have believed in my work.” She adds that she’s reached the top without needing to wear skimpy outfits or going to the other extreme of melodrama .
Krishna Vamsi, like Raghavendra Rao, is known to give his heroines a glamorous look. As for her experience of working with the director, Genelia says, “He is a walking talking encyclopaedia and I got to learn a lot about cinema from him.” She informs us that her makeup isn’t over the top either. The love story genre has been rehashed so much that all love stories look, seem and sound alike, but Sashirekha Parinyam has a fresh approach, she vouches. She says the film has more soul than looks.
Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Hindi... obviously Genelia must be on a high. “No,” she quips. “It does make me happy; it makes a huge difference, especially to receive small compliments. Her biggest asset, she points out, is being accepted by different kinds of audiences. She reveals that most of her audiences for Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na in Andhra were Telugu-speaking audience.
“The other day a gentleman walked up to me in a flight and said he feels proud to take his daughter to my films; I was floored. I am thankful to my parents for keeping me grounded; the camera reflects the person that you are. There is no room for ,” Genelia adds . The actress is game for even a five minute role if it is meaningful and says Sashirekha Parinayam is going to be another feather in her cap.
