Be an idol

Sing and dance your way to success, the Pondicherry Idol 2009 is here

Ever dreamt of becoming a singer and people swooning over your voice? Then, here is a chance to showcase your singing talents. The Pondicherry Idol 2009 is back. The auditions for the voice hunt (in its second edition) will be held today (3 p.m.) and on January 17 at the Casablanca store.

To participate, all you need to do is perform on stage in front of a panel of judges, who will shortlist candidates based on their ability to sing and dance. The competition is open for all ages and musical styles. The contest is held in association with the Casablanca.

In the first season, the winners and the contestants of the second round got to sing seven tracks for a CD that will be released shortly by Casablanca.

The auditions for the first Pondicherry Idol contest were held in October 2007. Over 40 singers from Canada, Germany, USA, Spain and India took part in the contest. Of them, 13 were selected for the first show held at the Promenade Hotel. The judges included M. Kamaraj, a music lecturer, M. Gasper, director of Trinity School of Music in Pondicherry, M. Didier Weiss, French sound engineer and Sandrine Mathieu, Pondicherry Idol 2007 coordinator. Apart from the judges’ verdict, the winners were also decided through a sms voting by the audience. Shree Lakshmi Radhakrishnan bagged the first place.

The final show of the second edition will be held on February 5, 12 and 19 and will be telecast live on Sky Sat TV.
