Simple is tasty, proves this spinach and dal dish

Veg delight Keerai Mashial is South Indian simplicity at its best

Keerai Mashial is a Chettinad dish from Tamil Nadu. It is spinach cooked with a little dal. Since this simple and tasty dish has greens and pulses, it is a healthy meal in itself.

Ingredients

Spinach: 2 bunches

Green gram dal: 100 gm

Salt: to taste

For tempering

Ghee: 10 gm

Mustard seeds: 5 gm

Cumin seeds: 5 gm

Black gram dal: 5 gm

Red chilli: 2

Method

Pressure cook the dal, keep it aside. Wash the spinach leaves, chop fine, blanch it in hot water and chill on ice. Blend in a mixie.

Take a pan, add the dal and the spinach, and cook till both are properly mixed.

For tempering, heat ghee in a ladle and add required ingredients. Add the dal.

Serve hot with rice.
