For women A workout at Body Art is therapeutic and age-friendly
Cookies and cold coffee have always been my impetus for burning the midnight oil. Enticing snacks… but unfortunately they are the bane of my battle with the bulge.
On a lookout for a women’s only gym I came across Body Art on the Vellayambalam-Sastamangalam road and found a mantra that works wonders for body contours.
Body Art gym has a homely atmosphere to it and the workout regime comfortably balances the feel and the effect. It is a place that offers a mixture of floor exercises and gym equipment including fitness machines and dumbbells.
Warm up
I decided to warm up with floor exercises targeting the abs, hip, thighs and the legs, accompanied by peppy music. The warm-up exercises included yoga postures too. In no time, I was drenched in sweat.
Trainer Sreekala Rajesh says: “The combination of yoga and aerobics help in swifter weight reduction and maintenance. We offer a one-and-a-half hour session with an hour of floor exercise and half an hour of machine workouts. This increases the overall stamina and leads to stronger muscles and bones.”
The multi-gym on the second floor is well equipped with all sorts of fitness gadgets.
Rosamma Koshy, a 52-year-old home maker, puffing away on the treadmill opines: “The routine is age friendly and the timings are flexible too.”
Short sessions on the treadmill, the fitness bench, the row boat, the twister and the cycle are a must do. Rounding off the workout is a few minutes on the dumbbells. The dumbbells are lightweight, meant for toning and not for developing biceps. The diet insisted on by Body Art is a balanced one that rotates between low carbohydrates, fruits and vegetables. The gym also has a steam sauna to sweat out the extra pounds that really rejuvenates the body after the rigourous workout.
Therapeutic
“This workout does not make you push yourself to extremes. It is more therapeutic. It also improves your concentration,” says Shalini J.S., one of the regulars at the gym.
Bottom line: A safe road to a beautiful mind and body.
